Industry Projects

The Fox IT related undergraduate and graduate programs are applied and faculty/students routinely work with local organizations on joint student or faculty led business technology projects. The projects range from analytical, developmental, evaluation, to strategic. IBIT acts as a facilitator and project manager to match industry needs with academic goals.

Class based student led projects

Such projects are well defined and can be completed in the context and rhythm of an academic semester. Students perform best when they understand the reason behind the project, learn a high-end technology as part of the project, and can see an end to the project, ideally leading to real value for the sponsoring organization.

Examples

Development — typically PC based projects developed in C#, Microsoft Access, Oracle, and ASP.NET

• Inventory and bid tracking system for a plumbing supply company. The system includes: product lists, customer histories, bidding records, with reports and inquiries.
• A travel industry web site that allows potential customers to record travel preferences. The system produces customer notifications via emails when travel specials match their travel dates and interests.
• A restaurant and catering service web site offers menus, graphics, and information. A cash register application prices orders and records all sales for later reporting and graphing.

Analyze and Evaluate

• Analyze a business problem and propose an information technology solution. Evaluate the effectiveness of a current systems/tools based on business and technical objectives.
• Evaluate the opportunity presented by Internet/E-Business technologies in specific industries.
• Compare and benchmark the features of different Internet development tools.
